Is it worth stepping up from your old Logitech G920 or G29 etc. to the newer Logitech G923, or do you need a Direct Drive system like the Logitech G Pro, Fanatec CSL DD, or Moza R5/R9?
Our Top Picks for EA Sports F1® 24
Here is a summary of our favourite options for Sim Racing Hardware that will be great for EA Sports F1® 24. Keep reading below for a detailed explanation of why we think these options are great.
1. Logitech G920/G29/G923 – Best entry-level setup to get up and driving in F1 24
2. Fanatec CSL DD / GT DD Pro – Best value Direct Drive Wheel for F1 24 on PC and Console
3. Fanatec CSL Elite V2 Pedals – Best Value Sim Racing Pedals for EA Sports F1 24
4. Logitech G Pro Direct Drive Wheel – Best Driving Experience on PC or Console for F1 24
5. THE ULTIMATE SIM RIG! – No expense spared, this is the dream!
Read on for more details on these, and what we think the Ultimate, no-expense-spared Setup for EA F1® 24 could be.
1. Logitech G920/G29/G923
Best entry-level setup for F1 24
When it comes to getting up and driving for as little cost as possible, it’s hard to look past a good-condition second-hand Logitech G920 or G29. These racing wheel and pedal sets have stood the test of time when it comes to build quality and functionality. For a first-time Sim Racer wanting to give it a go with EA Sports F1 24, on either PC or Console, the older Logitech racing wheel and pedal sets will provide everything you need to immerse yourself in the F1 experience.
PC users are able to use either the G920 or G29. The G29 will give you a few additional inputs on the wheel which can come in handy for EA Sports F1 24 due to the huge amount of parameters available for in-car adjustment.
For Compatibility, XBOX users will need to go for the G920, and PlayStation users will need the G29.
With the G923, Logitech introduced TRUEFORCE, which uses a proprietary API to read telemetry and audio data at high frequency (1000Hz READ and processed onboard at 4000Hz) and low latency to produce more detailed force feedback effects. This is beyond the scope of what’s available through the old DirectInput API which has been around for 20 years.. TRUEFORCE has proven to be a valuable asset in the Logitech wheels but is not fully realised in the G923. To get the full experience of TRUEFORCE you’d want to be looking at the Logitech G Pro wheelbase.
If you can pick up a G923 for a slight increase in price over the G920 and G29 I would say it is definitely nice to have, but if you can find an absolute bargain on one of the cheaper wheels, or if you already have a G920 or G29 and are considering an upgrade to the G923, it is hard to say that it is a must-have upgrade. You may be better off waiting until you can take the step up to our next category of Sim Racing setups.
Do you need more than the Logitech G923?
Need is a strong word, but there is definitely a lot of value to be had from moving up to the next bracket. But, keep in mind the rabbit hole you might be about to enter. With the G923, you get a reliable and feature-packed complete package for a very low cost which works on PC and Console. Another important factor is that a wheelbase of this strength, and pedals of this design, can be used without any special mountings or a cockpit. If you need the minimum fuss installation of popping it on your office desk and using your office chair with the pedals on the carpet, the G923 could be right for you.
2. Fanatec CSL DD / GT DD Pro
Best Value Direct Drive Wheel for F1 24
A Direct Drive Wheelbase connects the wheel to the motor directly, without any additional cogs or belts which would inevitably dampen the force feedback before reaching your hands. Because of this, a good DD wheelbase will provide a significant amount more detail while maintaining a smooth feel. This undoubtedly enhances the immersion of the Sim Racing experience and makes it easier to feel what the car is doing. Although muscle memory and practice will allow someone on a cog or belt-driven wheelbase to drive just as fast and accurately.
Fanatec still has what I believe is the most complete package when it comes to “entry-level” direct drive wheelbases. The CSL DD and PlayStation-compatible GT DD Pro provide 5 Nm of peak torque, or 8Nm with the addition of the Boost Pack 180. While 5 Nm might leave you wanting to upgrade again if you start getting serious, 8 Nm should be plenty of power to keep you satisfied for a long time.
The best alternatives to the Fanatec CSL DD and GT DD Pro from other brands, are the MOZA Racing R5 and R9. They provide a very similar Force Feedback experience to that of the Fanatec wheelbases, but MOZA Racing just doesn’t have the same level of depth in their complete ecosystem, and their pedals aren’t particularly inspiring.
Fanatec offers a huge range of Sim Racing Wheels, which can be used with the CSL DD and GT DD Pro via their quick-release system which allows you to change your wheel with the style of car you’re driving very easily. Perfect for EA Sports F1 24, they have a number of Formula style wheels such as the F1 Esports V2, and the slightly more expensive but feature-rich Clubsport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5, which is perfect for controlling the many in-car parameters in F1 24 while at full pace. But that’s not to say you can’t get started and have a great time with one of the cheaper wheels that come in their bundles.
Xbox users can use either the CSL DD or GT DD Pro with an XBOX specific Wheel like the “ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 X”. Playstation users will need to go with the GT DD Pro to get Playstation Compatibility.
Just remember that everything from Fanatec is PC Compatible, XBOX Compatibility comes from the Wheel, and PlayStation compatibility comes from the Wheelbase.

3. Fanatec CSL Elite V2 Load Cell Pedals
Best Value Sim Racing Pedals for EA Sports F1 24
Pedals, and more specifically, the brake pedal, is probably the most important part of your setup to ensure quick and consistent driving. Any Sim Racing pedal should give you the ability to build your muscle memory so that you are able to hit the right amount of braking force every time and then modulate smoothly around the optimum braking pressure. This is vital for pulling up the car efficiently and trail-braking into a turn, which once you’ve mastered could shave seconds from your lap times.
In EA Sports F1® 24, you don’t have ABS, so you’ll want to be hitting your optimum braking force perfectly. You’ll also need excellent sensitivity on the brake pedal as you transition from aerodynamic to mechanical grip through a turn.
The Fanatec CSL Elite V2 Load Cell pedals do a really great job at providing everything you need for good braking technique at a very good price. They are a significant step up in build quality and overall driving experience to the cheaper Fanatec “CSL Pedals LC” and provide a very similar driving experience to that of the more expensive Fanatec Clubsport Pedals V3 with Brake Performance Kit. I would personally choose the CSL Elite V2 pedals over the Clubsport Pedals V3 due to their adjustability, which makes them very easy to dial into your liking.
4. Logitech G Pro Direct Drive Wheel
Best Driving Experience on PC or Console for F1 24
The Logitech G Pro Direct Drive wheelbase sees the potential of TRUEFORCE realized. This 11 Nm of peak torque provided by this Direct Drive wheelbase puts it right in the sweet spot for what many would say is the ideal FFB Strength. Which paired with TRUEFORCE provides a genuinely unique and outstanding Force Feedback Experience. The Logitech G Pro particularly stands out for those looking for console compatibility, and more strength than the Fanatec GT DD Pro.
Logitech have recently released the RS “Racing Series” of accessories which includes a couple of wheel rims, a Shifter/Handbrake combo unit. There is also an option to purchase a Quick Release so you can use a third party wheel on your logitech G Pro base, although that will only work on PC.
The Ultimate setup for EA Sports F1 24
For the ultimate experience with EA Sports F1 24, PC users are spoilt for choice, and a lot of that choice when you get to the pointy end of the market will come down to personal preference. But here are a few of our favourite bits of Sim Racing gear that will never leave you wanting.
The Ultimate F1 Sim Racing Pedals
Simucube ActivePedals:
It doesn’t get any higher end than this. The world’s first Force Feedback Sim Racing Pedals really are a groundbreaking piece of technology that provide an incredible driving experience. While they provide useful feedback with effects such as ABS, RPM Feedback and Traction Control, what is most valuable is the ability to dial these pedals in to feel exactly how you want for any given car.
F1 Driver Heikki Kovalainen has provided a preset configuration for these pedals to replicate the feel of his real-life F1 cars, a preset which utilises a whopping 127 kg of maximum braking force and very minimal brake pedal travel. Now I found that preset very difficult to drive with, but the fact you are able to get it dialled in to feel exactly how an F1 driver says his real car feels, or exactly how your Toyota Prius feels, is very cool.
Asetek Invicta and Forte Pedals
The Asetek Invicta Hydraulic Pedals set out to mimic the short travel and stiff feel of many racing cars. And while they might not have the same amount of adjustability as something like the Heusinkveld Ultimate+ Pedals, they do a very good job at what they have aimed for, making them very well to Formula 1.
We were very impressed with the much cheaper Forte Load Cell pedals, which have a very similar overall feel to the Invicta’s, but just lack that last little bit of hydraulic goodness which is quite hard to describe, but does give some added feeling to your brake input.
The Ultimate F1 Sim Racing Wheelbase
For a no-expense-spared wheelbase, the Simucube 2 Ultimate is still my pick. At 32 Nm Peak Torque, It is completely overkill for just about every Sim Racing usage case, but amazing nonetheless. So you might be able to save yourself a bit of money for a nice wheel rim and go with the 25 Nm Simcube 2 Pro, or 17 Nm Simucube 2 Sport.

It is also worth mentioning the Asetek wheelbases, I think the Invicta Wheelbase has a slight advantage in Force Feedback feel over the Simucube 2 Ultimate, but at the moment with the limited options for wheel rims, mounting, and a few niggling QC issues, it is not quite ready to take the mantle from Simucube in my opinion.
The Ultimate F1 Sim Racing Wheel

In feel, looks and functionality, it is perfectly suited to Formula 1.
