You may recall a few months back there was a massive recall of Takata airbags which were found to release projectiles when inflated much like a claymore mine.
The airbags were responsible for at least 10 deaths and more than 100 injuries, and the company will plead guilty to a criminal charge related to the cover-up of its defective airbags.
The fine consists of $25 million to individuals injured by their defective airbags, and $850 million to OEMs whom purchased the inflators that were used in up to 78 million cars. The faulty airbags were used by nearly every manufacturer, including GM, BMW, Ford, Nissan, Mercedes, Toyota and Honda.
You can check with your vehicle manufacturer to see if your vehicle is affected.
