What if you could make the ambient lighting cast on your sim rig and your body match what it should look like in real life?
Real-time Adaptive Ambient Lighting has been something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time but didn’t think was possible.
But a recent video from Sim GP tipped us off to a relatively easy way this can be set up for surprisingly low cost using the Philips Hue system.
Regardless of how your monitors are connected, you can use the Hue Sync Desktop app to control your lights with no need to intercept the video signal from your PC to your monitor.
This bring a whole new level of immersion to the sim racing experience.
So let’s see how it works!
All the components we used to build this system, as well as the components we suggest for other configurations are listed with comments to help you choose HERE, or simply click on the products below.
PHILIPS HUE PLAY STARTER KIT
The cheapest option which includes everything you need to get started on a typical single or triple monitor setup.
PHILIPS HUE SMART OUTDOOR LIGHTSTRIP 2M
The same 2M light strip we used in our setup. We used 3 of these for our triple 65 inch setup.
PHILIPS HUE SMART BRIDGE
You’ll need one of these if you’re buying lights on their own and not part of a kit.
PHILIPS HUE SMART INDOOR LIGHTSTRIP 2M
Works the same as the outdoor kit we used, but doesn’t diffuse light as well and can not be bent face up. May be more suitable for some integrations.
PHILIPS HUE PLAY BAR PAIR (NO HUB)
The cheapest option which includes everything you need to get started on a typical single or triple monitor setup.
PHILIPS HUE SMART LIGHT BULB STARTER KIT
If globes suit your setup better than self contained strips or play lights, this kit is for you.
PHILIPS HUE SMART LIGHT BULB
Need an extra individual globe for your system. This is what you need.
A19 BAYONET GLOBE CLIP LAMP
Need an extra individual globe for your system. This is what you need.
