Ever since Simucube released their revolutionary Active Pedals, sim racers have been eagerly waiting for more affordable alternatives to hit the market. Enter the MOZA mBooster – priced at $799 USD for the standalone pedal, it comes in at less than half the cost of Simucube’s Active Pedal Pro. While the price tag is still substantial, it represents a significant step toward making active pedal technology accessible to more serious sim racers. Our extensive testing aimed to answer two key questions: does the mBooster deliver a comparable experience to its premium-priced Simucube competitors, and is it worth the significant price premium over high-end load cell pedals with haptic feedback such as the Simagic P1000s?

In this comprehensive review, we’ll examine exactly what the mBooster delivers compared to its more expensive competitors, dive deep into its hardware and software capabilities, and analyze the driving experience it provides. Whether you’re looking to enhance immersion and braking precision with ABS feedback or create custom pedal profiles for different racing disciplines, we’ll help you determine if the mBooster represents the value breakthrough it appears to be, or if there are compromises that might steer you in a different direction.

Pros

  • Significantly more affordable than Simucube Active Pedals (less than half the price)
  • Provides about 90% of the Simucube Active Pedal experience as a brake
  • Effective ABS effects that accurately simulate the physical sensation
  • Highly customizable pedal feel with adjustable resistance curves
  • Can be adjusted on-the-fly without physical modifications
  • Good build quality with aluminum construction
  • Dual load cell design prevents inconsistent brake pressure based on foot placement
  • Integrates directly with other Moza peripherals
  • Can reach up to 200kg of pedal resistance

Cons

  • Throttle and clutch functionality was “broken” at time of review (sluggish return and inconsistent feel)
  • Mounting solutions are awkward
  • Pedal tray has some flex/dip when under heavy braking pressure
  • Slight graininess in pedal feel (similar to Simucube Active Pedals)
  • Engine vibration effect only works when pedal pressed
  • Software presets need improvement
  • No cloud-based profiles (unlike Simucube)
  • Plastic housing components give a slightly less premium look than Simucube
  • Some inconsistencies in software/firmware updates (typical of Moza products)

Summary

After extensive hands-on testing, the MOZA Racing mBooster Active Pedal proves to be an impressive entry in the active pedal market. While it doesn’t quite match the refinement of Simucube’s offerings, I would call it around 90% of the experience at less than half the price when used as a brake pedal. The customizable pedal feel, effective ABS simulation, and solid construction make it a compelling option for sim racers looking to upgrade from traditional load cell pedals.

However, the mBooster isn’t without its flaws. The throttle and clutch functionality had significant issues at the time of our review, the mounting solutions are awkward, and the pedal tray has some flex under heavy braking. For serious sim racers focused primarily on brake performance and willing to work around the mounting limitations, the mBooster represents excellent value compared to the Simucube alternatives. But if you’re considering it as part of a three-pedal active setup, we’d recommend waiting for MOZA to address the software issues affecting throttle and clutch performance.
