Simucube ActivePedal Pro: Detailed Review

Simucube’s ActivePedal is one of the most unique and technically impressive products in sim racing. The idea of a fully motorised, force-feedback pedal that can replicate different cars and brake systems in real time is still something no one else has quite matched.
The newer ActivePedal Pro takes that same concept and trims it back slightly on paper, with a lower maximum force rating and a shorter warranty period. On track, though, the Pro feels almost indistinguishable from the ActivePedal Ultimate. And that matters, because even at its lower price, this is still a huge investment compared to traditional pedal sets. It needs to justify itself not just against the Ultimate, but against the very best conventional pedals on the market. The central question is whether it clears that bar — and whether the Ultimate still has a role at all.

VALUE: 6/10

Still a luxury purchase, but the Pro makes more sense than the Ultimate.

The ActivePedal Pro undercuts the Ultimate by a wide margin, while delivering an almost identical driving experience. The only real compromises are a shorter two-year warranty and a lower maximum force rating, neither of which show up in normal use. That makes the Pro the more rational choice between the two.

But make no mistake: even in this cheaper form, the ActivePedal remains a hugely expensive piece of equipment. It’s not something to stretch your finances for, and it will only ever appeal to a narrow slice of sim racers willing to pay for cutting-edge pedal technology.

Build Quality: 9/10

Heavy-duty construction with premium machining and smooth operation.

The ActivePedal Pro carries over the same outstanding physical quality that made the Ultimate so impressive. The housing is solid and heavy, with no flex or weak points. The machining and finish of the pedal arms and faces are excellent, with smooth edges and a premium feel underfoot.

Mounting options are robust, with plenty of rigidity once bolted in. The pedal faces feel high-quality, comfortable for long sessions, and give the impression of a product designed for serious, long-term use.

The main reason it doesn’t get a perfect 10 is the shortened warranty compared to the Ultimate, which slightly tempers confidence in the long-term picture.

Throttle feel: 6/10

An underlying graininess holds it back as a throttle.

When used as a throttle, the ActivePedal Pro reveals one of its only weak points. There’s a subtle but noticeable grainy feel in the pedal travel, which isn’t distracting when used as a brake but becomes obvious in lighter, smoother throttle applications. At this price point, where refinement is expected across the board, that underlying texture detracts from the experience.

It’s still perfectly usable and consistent, but compared to the silky travel of high-end traditional throttle pedals, the Pro doesn’t feel as natural or fluid. This makes it a tough sell as a dedicated throttle pedal, and the Simucube Passive Throttle Pedal is a more compelling way to complete your set.

Clutch feel: 7/10

Functional, but ultimately unnecessary.

As a clutch, the ActivePedal Pro works exactly as intended. You can dial in bite point and overall feel to match the car precisely, and the adjustability makes setup changes quick and straightforward. The Pro has no trouble handling the forces involved, and it delivers smooth, consistent performance.

The question is whether this role is really worth the expense. After living with the ActivePedal Ultimate three-pedal set for a long time, the clutch just hasn’t been something I’ve utilised enough to justify the investment of an ActivePedal. It’s undeniably cool tech and it works well, but in this role it feels unnecessary — a passive clutch pedal makes far more sense for the money.

Brake feel: 9.8/10

Where ActivePedals truly shine.

The brake is where the ActivePedal Pro justifies its existence. Having force feedback in a brake pedal completely transforms the experience, allowing you to replicate the feel of different systems — from a soft, progressive road car pedal to the rock-hard bite of a GT3 car. The ability to tune not just maximum force but also the way the pedal ramps up through its travel gives a level of control and realism no passive pedal can match. And being able to switch profiles instantly to suit different cars adds real day-to-day value.

On track, that translates into consistency, confidence, and immersion. You can fine-tune exactly where the pedal stiffens, how much initial travel you want, and even simulate features like ABS activation. The Pro never feels like it’s running out of headroom; even under heavy braking, the 110 kg force ceiling is more than enough for me — and for most sim racers.

The only downside is the same slight graininess underfoot that shows up when using the Pro as a throttle or clutch. But when you’re leaning hard on the pedal in braking situations, it’s virtually invisible. This is the role where the ActivePedal Pro feels indispensable, and where the technology really proves its worth.

Adjustability: 9.5/10

Almost limitless tuning, with just a couple of small caveats.

Adjustability is one of the biggest strengths of the ActivePedal Pro. Through Simucube’s software you can shape the force curve however you like — from soft and progressive to rock-solid almost instantly — and save multiple profiles to switch between cars on the fly. That means you’re not locked into one “feel” for your pedals; you can replicate everything from a street car to a high-downforce single-seater with just a couple of clicks.

This ease and near-limitless scope for adjustment encourages experimentation. You can try out completely different setups and quickly see what works best for you. Traditional load cell pedals often make these kinds of changes difficult or time-consuming, which can discourage you from tweaking things. The ActivePedals, by contrast, inspire creativity — and that can ultimately translate into faster, more consistent driving.

The only reason it doesn’t score a perfect 10 is that there are still a few limits imposed by the Pro’s hardware — specifically the lower maximum force ceiling compared to the Ultimate, and the slight graininess present at lighter forces. Outside of those edge cases, the adjustability here is unmatched by any passive pedal system.

Software: 9/10

Powerful, polished, and easy to use.

The Simucube software is what unlocks the full potential of the ActivePedal Pro. It gives you a clean, intuitive interface to shape pedal curves, set maximum force, add effects like ABS vibration, and save multiple profiles to swap between cars instantly. The layout is straightforward, adjustments apply immediately, and you don’t need to wade through complex menus to get meaningful results.

Overall Rating: 8/10

Conclusion

The ActivePedal Pro takes almost everything that made the ActivePedal Ultimate impressive and delivers it at a lower price. On track, it feels virtually identical — the brake in particular is outstanding, offering consistency, adjustability, and immersion that passive pedals simply can’t replicate. For most sim racers who want to experience this technology, the Pro is the obvious choice, and the Ultimate now feels unnecessary.

That said, this is still a very expensive piece of equipment. The Pro remains a luxury purchase that only makes sense if you’re prepared to spend big on cutting-edge sim racing hardware. The shorter warranty compared to the Ultimate is worth noting, and the throttle and clutch roles don’t justify the cost in the same way the brake does.

If you want the very best and most versatile braking experience in sim racing, the ActivePedal Pro is unmatched. But if you’re weighing it against traditional high-end load cell or hydraulic pedals, you’ll need to decide whether the leap in technology — and price — is truly worth it for you.
