After building my 8700k system and beginning to overclock, I immediately realised I was going to need to delid the processor in order to take full advantage of my watercooling setup. So here goes!
In this video I take you though the entire process of delidding your 8700K using the RockitCool Delidding tool (or just about any other delidding tool available), including removal of the CPU, IHS, cleaning and applying liquid metal. While we’re at it, we also add a larger pure copper IHS (15% larger surface area) to further reduce temperatures.
And here are the results. As you can see, effectively the delta is around 30-35C when pushing maximum voltage, and around 20-25C at everyday usage voltages which is a lot more than I was expecting. But more importantly it’s allowed me to run higher clock speeds at lower voltages whilst maintaining temperatures well within acceptable levels.
