Fanatec have just released their new ClubSport Handbrake V2, which replaces their older position based handbrake with a force based “Load Cell” design for more precise input.
For PC users who are spoilt for choice with Load Cell Handbrakes, the new Fanatec ClubSport Handbrake V2 needs to tick all the boxes when it comes to build quality, overall feel of the handbrake, and adjustability to get it perfectly dialed in. Because there are some very good options for a similar price!
Console users with a Fanatec wheel and pedals don’t have that choice and just need to know if the ClubSport Handbrake V2 is a worthy upgrade to the V1.5 position based handbrake. Will there be a return on your investment in terms of lap times and enjoyment if you go with this new handbrake?
We took a detailed look at how the Fanatec ClubSport Handbrake V2 works, put it through its paces on track, and found some important things to consider before you pick one up.

Pros
- The best (in my opinion) natively compatible handbrake currently available for XBOX or PlayStation (requires an Xbox/PlayStation compatible wheelbase/wheel).
- Forced based input (Load Cell) for more precise control.
- Can be easily oriented either horizontally or vertically, or mounted to the side of the Fanatec Shifter.
- Sturdy Cast Aluminium Design with minimal flex.
- Plenty of adjustability to suit most driving styles.
Cons
- No USB Port. Requires a Fanatec USB Adaptor (additional cost) to be used on PC as a standalone device. Not required if you own a compatible Fanatec wheelbase or Pedal Set.
- Adjustability is a little bit awkward as the cover needs to be removed.
- Aluminium threads securing cover were stripped from factory on our sample.
- Handle isn’t easily exchangeable.
